The Sharp Quattron LC40LE821E boasts an innovative onscreen built in menu feature. When one begins to navigate through the menu functions, the picture on the screen becomes a bit smaller. However, the menu floats around the picture, allowing the user to continue to watch TV as he or she is using the menu system. This feature comes in quite handy, for example, when the person browsing the menu system is not the only viewer in the room, or viewer wants to set a recording time for another show, yet not miss any of the current programming.
Because the roll out of Freeview HD programming is currently underway in the UK, if the Freeview HD programming is available in your specific area, the Sharp LC40LE821E lets you pull in the HD through the aerial antenna. An internal 8GB hard drive is included with the Sharp LC-40LE821E as well. That menu feature allows one to record right to the hard drive for later viewing, though 8 Gigs holds only about forty-five minutes of high definition video. But, 8 Gigs can also hold up to two and half hours of conventional Standard Definition (SD) video.

Why does my Sharp Aquos backlight act up when watching dark scenes on tv shows?
When a dark scene comes on, the TV backlight seems to darken it even more, and when the scene gets a little lighter, the backlight brightens back up. It is SOOO annoying. For example, this happens on outdoor night scenes, like CSI. It is obviously the TV and not the TV show. How do I turn this feature off?

This is considered a feature. It is called dynamic contrast enhancement to give you better blacks.
You should be able to turn it off. Go to Picture settings and see if you can find the appropriate setting (or read your manual on how to turn it off).
