That is the fan i plan on hooking a DC 12v adapter up to i plan on making a quiet air filter out of it using some carbon or charcoal filter paper. 
any help with hooking the 12v power cord to the fan would be great I just don't understand what to do with the ground cable >.< Thanks
Well if you are thinking the third wire on the fan is a ground, it isn't (it is a control wire: you don't do anything with that). If you are saying that the 12v power cord has a ground wire, are you sure? Most power bricks don't. How many metal tips does it have. If 2, there's no ground.
If it does, I would be worried about the amps on the adapter. Much higher than 1200mA and you are getting too high.
If only 2 tabs/wires on the power brick, one of the wires will have a line running down it either in paint, or grooves. That should be the negative side. (always best to check with a volt meter).
And last, you want to be careful with the carbon or charcoal filter. If it is too dense the fan will be working too hard to push air through it that it won't be very effective and will likely just burn out the motor.
Also, the standard if you don't know what you are doing around electricity get someone who does or find out more about how to do it safely first.
