How To Replace A Laptop Screen On Your Own
LCD monitors are more fragile than CRT ones. LCD screens are especially vulnerable due to the lack of a glass shield. Such common problem for them, as dead pixels, can occur when a pressure is put upon the screen. Unfortunately, under most manufacturers warranty the screens with dead pixels are not replaceable. And a cracked or scratched LCD display is not repairable. If you have no more warranty, then a tech-support may tell you that it will cost about one-third (or more) of original laptop price to replace it. However, you can replace the screen yourself. Do not worry - it is easy to do even if you are not a tech person. Replacing the laptop screen on your own, you save money on the cost of the laptop screen and labor.
First determine if you need a new screen. The diagnosis is easy. Connect an external monitor to your notebook via its video output port to verify that the notebook's other components still work. If the laptop functions properly, it is time to replace the screen. Please be careful. Laptop internal parts, cables and sockets are very fragile and easy to crack, to rip off, or to brake. It is also a good idea to use some sort of organizer to organize screws by the steps of dis-assembly so you can follow the process in reverse order when assembling the screen.
Before buying a new LCD panel, it is necessary to examine and possibly remove, the current one. It helps to locate the necessary part numbers to ensure that you get the model that is right replacement. For most laptops, you will need only a small Philips screwdriver and a very small flat-head screwdriver or a knife. Before you begin, disconnect the power and remove the laptop's battery.
Then, you need to locate the screw covers. These small rubber covers are normally found on the front of the display's bezel (surrounding frame), though on some notebooks you might find some of the covers along the side of the screen. Use the tip of a small flat-head screwdriver or knife to carefully pry back the corner of each rubber cover around the screen until you can see if a screw lies underneath. If you locate a screw, remove the cover and place it in a safe location. In most cases, a screen has from 4 to 6 screws on the bezel. After you have located them all, remove and store them with the covers.
When screws are removed, try to unsnap the bezel by inserting your fingers between the bezel and the screen. To unsnap the bezel, start at the bottom with most laptops. Much force is not necessary but if you encounter difficulty, it is better to move a little bit further and try a different spot. You may need to slide laptop lid latch to completely remove the bezel. If you are unable to move the screen you may have to remove screws holding screen brackets to the laptop screen lid. Watch out for wires and cables stuck underneath the screen - such as of web-cam or wireless antenna - and be sure not to damage them.
Remove the screws in the metal bracket framing on either side of the screen. Place the screen on soft cloth on the keyboard. You will notice a flat wide video cable. Remove a piece of tape that keeps video cable attached to the back of the screen. Pull the video cable connector out of the socket using finger nail. If you are just replacing the LCD screen (and continue to use the inverter) leave it as is. However, if you are replacing the inverter as well, disconnect the power cable and then unscrew the inverter.
When you expose the screen, look for a label on the back showing the manufacturer's part number. This typically consists of one or more letters, followed by a series of numbers. To determine which screen models is compatible with your laptop or if you have difficulty determining model number of your old screen, you may use some on-line illustrated guide.
Since most laptop manufacturers charge too much, you may try to find third-party companies on the market that are selling laptop screens. Some places carry a big inventory of brand new LCD panels to replace any notebook screen. If you are unable to find a particular model listed on their website then you can call or email to ask if they can help you find a screen replacement for a particular laptop.
When the old screen has now been removed, the installation of the new screen is done by following these steps in reverse order. The LCD power connector is the last connection to make, after the video cables on the back are in place and the LCD is attached with screws. The final step, before the bezel inserts into place, is making sure the wires are not get pinched.

Where can I get good solar panels and other related items(inverters, brackets, etc.)?
I am a licensed B contractor in Sacramento, CA and I am just breaking into solar pv systems. Is there places that sell panels for licensed contractors only, around here (basically wholesale instead of retail)?
Looking for good quality and good prices.
Hey Demon, if you are already a lisenced contractor and want to add this field to your business profession, you'll need to have good information about the product, not just who you can buy them from. There is a simple way to do both at the same time. Get a subscription to Home Power Magazine, it is an inexpensive periodical that gets into the nuts and bolts of solar and wind power, rating different panels, turbines, charge controllers, batteries, inverters and such. All these types of devices are pretty mainstream in any solar application, and people that are interested in buying panels from you will expect you to have access and knowledge of them as well. The good thing about reading the magazine is you can catch up on all the equipment, and learn who the manufacturers are at the same time. If you want to get your materiels wholesale for resale, then the best place to start is at the manufacturer. Most solar, battery and inverter manufacturing has only been around a decade or two, which means they do not yet have the depth of developement you might find in say lumber, or steel, or even cars. So starting with them can easily put you in touch with someone in your area, or better yet working directly with the manufacturer in the first place. You'll have to express some knowledge in the area, the magazine and some basic research can get you there. If this parlays into your regular type of work, then it might be worth doing. If instead you're just looking to make a buck reselling solar, you'll end up like some of the vendors we spoke with when we decided 12 years ago to convert our home to solar power, they were busy selling out all their stock because they couldn't support what they sold, and were easily outdone by people in the business who knew what they were talking about. Take a look at the mag, and the other sites below, and make a decision you can live with. Good luck, and take care, Rudydoo
