LCD backlight, I / O ports and power protection circuit design
With the LCD TV screen becomes larger and more light, they require more voltage and more current, more stable and more reliable on the circuit protection technologies demand more urgent.
There are a variety of circuit protection devices can be used to help protect LCDled / 'target =' _blank '> display against high current or high voltage transients caused damage. Over-current protection can be taken to fuse or reset the PPTC (polymeric positive temperature coefficient) devices. Choose which programs, depending on the LCD design, the product may be exposed to the risk category, and even the relevant safety requirements.
PPTC device is generally applicable to the startup circuit withstand the large inrush current. PPTC device can withstand the impact of surge current and eliminates the trouble of replacing burned fuse. Fuse is not required for self-recovery circuit design, or only error in the system caused by circumstances that the impact of over-current circuit. When the soft start circuit is used to limit inrush current, the fuse is a practical solution.

PPTC device can also be used to prevent thermal runaway, if the LCD monitor of the cooling channel is blocked, thermal runaway can occur. Figure 1 shows how the PolySwitch PPTC device in series with the LED to provide overcurrent protection. Under normal operating current, PPTC devices have very low resistance value. In an overcurrent condition, PPTC device "jump" into the high impedance state. By the increase in resistance may be at fault conditions the current flow is reduced to a low steady-state level to help protect the circuit device. Before the fault is cleared, PPTC device will always be locked in a high impedance state. Once re-powered, PPTC device will reset itself and allow current flow through the circuit to resume normal operation.
Although the PPTC device can not prevent failure, but they can respond quickly to limit the current to a safe level, thus helping to prevent damage to the downstream device failure. Furthermore, PPTC devices in small form factor makes them easy to use space-constrained applications.

How long can my HP vs17x LCD screen backlight last?
Hi there isn't anything wrong with the LCD screen now(knock on wood) but I'm just curious and wondering how long can it last? Here is the hours information I found on the OSD(the menu):
Total Hours: 8941
Backlight Hours:4910
Is the part where it says Backlight Hours is how many hours I have left? Also does anyone have the same LCD Screen and they had a backlight burnout and if so how long did it take to burnout. Also where did you buy another one. Thanks for the help in advanced.
On LCD TV's the backlight life is about 60,000 hours, which means that after 60,000 hours the light will go down to one have of the original. I think it is the same for monitors. The data you have seems to be the hours you have used it.
