Fellow Actors!!! How do you deal with Emotional Memory without getting carried away?
I'm currently doing this theatrical piece in BTEC Performing Arts, and there is this specific scene which makes me remember a memory of my past which seriously gets me too carried away and I start to forget that I'm actually acting, I mean I'm still aware that I'm acting but I start to forget as well that it's not real.
I still want to do this piece and do this role of the rebellious son, I find his character really relatable to me, but how would you deal with emotional memory?
That's one of the great challenges in acting. You've got to find a middle ground between shutting out this memory completely & using it to fuel your performance. It's all about what balance between the two is right for you. Some actors need to remember more, others have to shut it out almost completely. I personally wouldn't shut it out completely if possible because it adds a certain genuineness to the performance. Try to identify & use the emotions you feel when remembering instead of actually going through the memory in you head, if that makes any sense.
