What is your opinion of each teams performance in the Bears Lions game?
Don't bring up the Calvin Johnson TD call, it was the right call but a stupid rule and it makes the Bears look bad and I'm not happy they won this way. How would you rate each teams performance before the last minute of play?
I agree with the Johnson call....dumb rule but the refs followed the rule as written....end of story. How di the 2 teams look. The Bears moved the ball very well, granted it was against a still obviously very weak Lions defense. Lovie Smith is clueless and has no concept of game management and Cutler still doesnt understand the concept of ball protection. The pass rush was excellent....again not sure if it was the ability of the Bears (they didnt run much other than the standard 4 man rush and a few line stunts) or the inability of the Lions O-line to block (Stafford got killed on one of the 3 complete whiffs by Backus on Peppers). The Lions still look inept. Cant take advantage of a team that turns the ball over numerous times, cant run the ball, didnt throw any long passes so the Bears were allowed to creep up the safeties all day long and the DBs and LBs are still as horrible as always (362 Cutler passing yards).
To sum it up for the Bears....very lucky to escape with a victory over a weak team. The offensive line is poor and has a lot of improving to do. The defense looked like a more classic Bears defense but one must wonder how much the Lions contributed to that. Lovie is a lousy coach who will get outcoached in virtually every game and Cutler appears not capable of solving his turnover issues. Not exactly a playoff contender and a 5-11 record seems very possible along with Lovie SMith being the first head coach fired this year.
As for the Lions....well same ole Lions if you ask me. Incapable of taking advantage of another teams poor play. They have as bad an O-line as the Bears (as evidenced by the lack of protection and lack of running room). The defensive line had some nice moments and looks like a solid unit. The LB corp is terrible with Peterson making 2 good plays and NOTHING else from the LB group the whole game. The DBs....well is it any surprise Cutler looked like John Elway with 362 passing yards or that Forte looked like Emmitt Smith in spite of the poor line play? But hey....3-13 is an improvement if they find a way to salvage that many wins.
