Vista or Processor problem when gaming?
Hey guys.
I recently purchased an HP dv9930us to replace my old Sager 5720.
I went from:
2gigs ram
GeForce 7800gt 256mb
pentium m 2.26
Windows XP
to:
4gigs of ram
GeForce 8600M GS
Duo Core 2.0ghz
Vista 64 bit premium
I thought originally I was getting a pretty big upgrade, but with the new system I seem to get weird frame rate issues with some games that I never received on the older system. Namely in Spore, and certain areas of World of Warcraft.
Is the Duo Core 2.0 not faster than my old Pentium M? Or is this a Vista issue?

One thing I forgot to mention is the gpu's ram. It has 512.
It's neither. Just looking at it, the problem might be the GPU. That GPU does not have dedicated video memory, but your 7800GT did. When gaming, your comptuer is sharing system RAM with the GPU (which is much slower).
The processor is definitely faster. Even a single core from the Duo is faster than the Pentium M. They are NOT the same GHz, the Duo does a lot more per clock cycle so in this case 2.0Ghz > 2.26Ghz.
Also, Vista is awesome and great for gaming and I don't have any issues with it.
