How do I get Inspiron 1501 fan to run faster?!?!? HD HOT!?

I recently upgraded my inspiron 1501 to a 320gb hard drive. Now when I run games and stuff and multitask it runs very hot (58C according to speedfan). But my fan is only running just in normal slow mode, even though it does go to higher speeds, and will when it gets extremely hot.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's several things you can do to upgrade the speed of your laptop.

You can upgrade your RAM by finding the exact frequency and amount that you need or the maximum your motherboard can support. You can check this at http://www.crucial.com.

Next you can upgrade your processor and/or video card provided neither are soldered into your motherboard. The particular socket for your AMD Turion processor is S1.

Also check the RPM of your HDD (hard drive) and see if it is 5400 RPM or 7200 RPM. The higher the RPM, the faster the hard drive can access information. You can also buy a SSD (solid state disk) which is a new type of hard drive that runs off of flash memory and is exponentially faster than other types of hard drives.

As far as cooling for your PC, you can adjust the fan speed by entering the BIOS or setup when you first turn on your computer. There should be a prompt allowing you to enter setup by pressing a certain F key.

And of course, perform disk cleanups and disk defragmentations regularly.
